Abstract
The COVID-19 pandemic is rapidly spreading on a global scale, posing significant challenges to the efficacy of healthcare systems in developed nations. The clinical manifestations of COVID-19 are varied and nonspecific, encompassing a spectrum from mild to severe respiratory, constitutional, and gastrointestinal symptoms, potentially advancing to severe acute respiratory infection and acute respiratory distress syndrome. In light of the absence of approved effective treatments and the ongoing public health crisis, it is imperative to investigate the efficacy of existing antiviral and herbal medications against COVID-19. Research suggests that further investigation is warranted into the effectiveness of medicinal plants from India, China, and Iran in treating COVID-19. Phytomedicine involves the use of roots, seeds, leaves, bark, and flowers for therapeutic purposes, with some plants demonstrating antiviral properties. Studies have shown that over 75% of drugs used to treat viral diseases are derived from botanical sources. Among these herbal medicines, olives are noteworthy.
